Research & Training
Research in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders focuses on many different areas, including the identification of effective methods for early screening, diagnosis and prevention, as well as testing and developing various treatment options. Surveys and studies solicit useful feedback from individuals with disabilities, their families and the professionals who work with them. This feedback enables researchers to refine their work, to share information with other researchers, and to disseminate the knowledge acquired to the public-at-large. With such knowledge, people can make more informed decisions about treatment and services.
Many research publications are inaccessible to the layperson. With the development of the internet, there are now many websites with detailed information on research activities, ongoing studies and issues in the field of Autism Spectrum Disorders and developmental disabilities. The quality and accuracy of information may vary. We suggest you start your search by linking to some of the major recognized Canadian research groups listed in this section. Many of them actively seek participation for surveys and studies and offer on-line newsletters to keep you informed of recent developments in the field.
